Spirit, Soul & Body
We are 3 part beings made up of our spirit, soul and body. Why is that important? Well, let’s go on. In 1 Thess. 5:23, Paul was praying for our whole spirit, soul & body. – “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
When we are born again, 2 Cor. 5:17 tells us that ALL things have become new; the old has gone. That’s exciting! Praise Jesus! But after the initial excitement wears off, some of us question what really changed. We look in the mirror and we don’t see anything different. We step on the scale, no major change there (body). Our emotions didn’t really change (soul). So what changed?
Our spirit did!! It went through a complete transformation. And when that happened, Heb. 12:23 tells us that our spirit was instantly changed. “…. to the spirits of just men made perfect.” Now, our job is simply to renew our minds in the Word. As we do, we will discover what truly happened when we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
Here are a few of the amazingly wonderful things that took place in the spirit:
Everything that is true of Jesus is NOW true of your born-again spirit! Eph. 4:15-23; Col. 2:9-10; 1 John 4:17.
Your spirit is directly connected to Jesus’! 1 Cor. 6:17
You have been sanctified and perfected FOREVER! Heb. 10:10, Heb. 10:14, and Heb. 12:23
You are blessed blessed blessed! Eph. 1:3
Your spirit cannot sin! Yeah! 1 John 3:9
Now the rest of our Christian life is NOT trying to obtain the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23), BUT releasing what we ALREADY have in our spirits into our souls & bodies! And how do we do that? By opening up God’s Word! His spiritual mirror! As we look into God’s spiritual mirror, we will see what’s true about our spirit change our souls and bodies.
Start reading God’s Word and renewing your mind (Rom. 12:2). Focus on how much God loves you! How much He has already done for you! And how awesome He thinks you are. And on how valuable you are to Him! He proved this by taking upon Himself what we deserved (death and judgment) and giving us what He deserved (righteousness and justification)! When He died on the Cross, 2 Cor. 5:21 tells us that He who knew no sin became sin for us! Why? So we might become the Righteousness of God in Him! This is the GREAT EXCHANGE! Wow! The “might” goes away the second you accept Jesus into your heart. Your spirit becomes at that moment righteous and holy! What a wonderful Savior!
