Chpt 14 – Releasing the Mind of Christ
Studying God’s Word will draw out the wisdom, that’s in our spirit. When we’re reading the Bible, we are receiving words with our physical eyes that are spirit and life. As we take this knowledge into our soul, new thoughts and ideas come to our physical mind. When this happens, our spirit – which ALREADY has the truth and mind of Christ – will bear witness with it.
When a scripture we’ve read a dozen or even a hundred times before all at once everything within us shouts, “Yes!” That’s when our spirit and soul become of one mind! Once this connection is made, that truth just goes off inside of us. It’s now revelation and reality to us. Because of our inner witness, we don’t necessarily need anyone else to prove it; we just know it!
Several scriptures reveal this inner witness.
Romans 8:16-17 (NKJV) “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”
Our relationship with Jesus makes us heirs of God. What a statement! We are joint-heirs with Christ of everything God has. The term “joint-heir” signifies a shared inheritance. A joint checking account means two people share the account, and both signatures are needed to cash a check or make a withdrawal. One signature will not release funds from a joint account. Jesus is our joint-heir. Even though we might be tempted to sign our inheritance away as Adam did, Jesus will never cooperate with that. Our inheritance is secure because Jesus will never put His signature on any of our bad choices.
Adam was not a joint-heir with Christ; he was a joint-heir with Eve. They shared dominion over the earth. In order for their transgression to be valid, both of them had to participate. They did (Genesis 3:6), and they signed away their authority over the earth to Satan. He became the god of this earth (2 Cor. 4:4) through what Adam did. In a very real sense, God didn’t create Satan. He created Lucifer, a powerful angel. Adam and Eve created Satan when they gave him the power and authority they had been given over the earth.
The world will label and diminish us, but the Holy Spirit will always seek to reveal our true identity.
We are dearly-loved children of the Most High. When we know who our Abba Father is, we will know who we are and we will have the confidence to live a great life unencumbered by fear. We will bring our cares and concerns to our Father, because if it matters to us it matters to Him.
Spiritual truth is received in our spirits. The Holy Spirit can communicate with us a hundred different ways – through the Bible, a sermon, a poem, a movie, a song, a thought, and through the wonders of creation – but his words are always received in our spirits. When the Spirit of truth speaks, our spirits resonate testifying that his words are true (John 16:13).
Our spirit is that part of us that makes us spiritually aware or God-conscious. For want of a better analogy, our spirit is like an antenna. Just as our physical bodies connect us to the physical realm, our spirits connect us to the spiritual realm. Just as we have natural senses (sight, smell, hearing, etc.), we have spiritual senses (e.g., intuition).
1 John 5:10a (NKJV) “He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself…”
Every believer has a Jesus-story to tell, and every believer has the Holy Spirit bearing witness with their spirits that they are children of God (Rom. 8:16). .
Studying God’s Word is vital for achieving single mindedness and release God’s power! Our spirit mind, the mind of Christ, agrees completely with the Word! When a truth from God’s Word takes root in our soulish realm, that same knowledge, which has ALREADY existed in our spirit mind, rises up and meshes with it. This draws God’s power resident within us out into the physical realm. That’s when we see manifestation.
Our Spirit Prays!
Praying in tongues (PIT) is another powerful way to release the mind of Christ.
1 Corinthians 14:2 (NKJV) “For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.”
The gift of tongues is the ability to speak, pray, or praise the Lord in unknown languages. Other languages include human languages (Acts 2:4-6) and angelic or heavenly languages. When we speak in an unknown tongue, we are speaking to God with our spirits instead of our minds (1 Cor. 14:14).
1 Corinthians 14:14 (NKJV) “For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.” This scripture shows both minds in operation. Notice: Our spirit prays! Wow!
This is one of the great advantages of speaking in tongues/praying in tongues. Our born-again spirits are perfect (Heb. 10:10, 14; and 12:23). Our born-again spirits have the mind of Christ. They have all the power of Christ (Eph. 1:18-20). They are complete (Col. 2:9-10). Therefore, when we are praying from our spirits, we are praying with the mind of Christ, using our most holy faith (Jude 20).
Too often, our minds, with all their wrong thinking and unbelief, get in the way. Praying in tongues bypasses our minds and allows our spirits to have unhindered communion with the Father.
We build ourselves up by praying in tongues!
1 Corinthians 14:4 (NKJV) “He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.”
“Edify” means “to build up” or “to promote spiritual growth.” It’s our soul that’s actually growing and being built up because our spirit is ALREADY perfect and complete. The mind of Christ in our spirit prays when we pray in tongues.
Our goal is to facilitate single-mindedness. The mind of Christ ALREADY knows all things. We are trying to get God’s Word into our soul so that our spirit can bear witness with it.
As our soulish embraces a truth and agrees “Yes God, this is what I believe. I’m throwing out all other contrary thoughts and belief systems. This truth will now rule my life,” we become of one mind. Our soul unites to our spirit’s way of thinking, and we’re built up by drawing our spirit’s wisdom and knowledge out into the physical realm. That’s when we’ll see God’s power manifest.
Hidden Wisdom
When we pray in tongues (PIT), our spirit prays the hidden wisdom of God. “Howbeit in the spirit…” (1 Cor. 14:2). What are those mysteries?
1 Corinthians 2:7 (NKJV) “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory.” That’s what the Apostle Paul preached!
God’s wisdom is not hidden from His children but for His children. In a sense, God has communicated His wisdom in code so that no one can perceive it except those to whom the Holy Spirit reveals it. The Holy Spirit offers God’s wisdom to all people, starting with the revelation of their need for Christ as their Savior. If they receive that truth by putting their faith in Jesus, then they receive the mind of Christ in their hearts (1 Cor. 2:16). They also receive as much revelation of the things of God as they will believe and receive. If they reject the revelation that the Holy Spirit seeks to give, then God’s wisdom remains a mystery. They are denied access.
Paul ministered God’s Word “in demonstration of the Spirit and of power” (1 Cor. 2:4). Paul actually put down carnal knowledge – learned physical knowledge – in favor of God’s wisdom! In other words, there’s a wisdom that proceeds from our born again spirit (mind of Christ).
1 Corinthians 2:16 (NKJV) “For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.”
There’s also a wisdom that comes from our physical brain (what somebody taught us). We must understand the things of God through our spirit man. It’s this wisdom that comes from our spirit that enables us to relate to God. Paul preached this wisdom!
“But God Hath Revealed…”
1 Corinthians 2:9 (NKJV) “But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
1 Cor. 2:9 is often misused. “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen…..” Keep reading:
1 Corinthians 2:10 (NKJV) “But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.”
….Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are FREELY given to us of God….we have the mind of Christ (1 Cor. 2:10-12, 16)
1 Cor. 2:9 contrasts OT saints with New Covenant believers who know all things in their spirits! (1 Cor. 2:14). The New Testament believer has the mind of Christ in their born-again spirit. We can understand the things of God!
Paul preached the hidden wisdom of God. He declared, “I speak with tongues more than you all” (1 Cor. 14:18). As Paul pray in tongues (PIT), he spoke forth God’s mysteries and received revelation knowledge concerning them (1 Cor. 14:2). Paul ministered in his native language the wisdom he received through PIT.
Inside Out
PIT when we study God’s Word. As we do, we’ll release the mind of Christ into our soulish realm through revelation knowledge. God will supernaturally reveal things to us through His Word as a result of PIT. Revelation knowledge comes by the Holy Spirit inside our born-again spirit bearing witness in our soul with a truth from God’s Word! We might be reading or listening to Scripture when suddenly, it comes alive inside! That’s revelation!
Simeon recognized the Christ Child by revelation knowledge (Luke 2:26-28). No human could have told him these things. God revealed it to Simeon through his spirit.
Revelation knowledge comes from the inside out, not the outside in. All of a sudden, the mind of Christ in our born-again spirit just reaches up from the inside and grabs that truth shouting, “Yes! This one’s true. This one is for you!”
Believe to Interpret
When you PIT, we can believe God for interpretation (1 Cor. 14:13). While the context of this verse primarily addresses the need for interpretation of a publicly given tongue in a church service, we can believe God for interpretation when we’re PIT privately as well.
PIT benefits us whether we believe for interpretation or not. It releases stress and releases the peace of God into our soul and body (Isa. 28:11-12). It builds us up and promotes spiritual growth (1 Cor. 14:4).
Since we are praying from the mind of Christ, why wouldn’t we want to interpret? We started interpreting our PIT a long time ago. As we PIT and ask God to interpret them to our mind so we could understand them, revelation came.
Understanding will come as we write these scriptures out, meditate on them, PIT over them, and received interpretation. This revelation of Spirit, Soul & Body is foundational! God will start putting this together for us! Understanding about eternal redemption will come! How God could loves us will come! These truths will explode from within and become reality.
After about a week, the revelation was coming so fast and furious! We’ll have to ask God to slow it down. Then pray for interpretation!
Disaster or Safety?
The Spirit and the Word always agree (1 John 5:7). They never disagree because God’s Word never contradicts spiritual truth. Whether we are PIT and believing for interpretation or not, whenever thoughts contrary to the Word flash across our mind, immediately conclude, “That’s not God!”
If we stay within these biblical boundaries, we’ll be able to safely receive much revelation from the Lord. As we PIT and ask for interpretation, thoughts will come and all of a sudden we’ll say, “I’ve never seen that before!”
Basically, we need to know God’s Word to be able to do this. Through this, God has revealed many things to me! These truths on Spirit, Soul & Body come through God’s Word. These verses and passages will come alive and impact lives in ways we might not have experienced before when we mix Scripture meditation with PIT!
Meditating God’s Word, PITs, and receiving interpretation is the fast track to single-mindedness and transformation!
