God’s Word — The “Real” Mirror
God’s Word is the “real” mirror. Mirrors that we are used to looking at daily do not show us the “real you.” We only see our reflection. God’s Word is the only way to see what’s true in our spirit. We can’t go by our feelings or experiences. Yes, experiences can grab our attention or touch us emotionally in the physical realm, but only God’s Word — the “real” mirror — can reveal what’s going on in our spirits. There is a spiritual “us.” And in the spirit, we are perfect, as perfect as we will be throughout eternity.
Paul prayed in 1 Thess. 5:23, “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Many verses say this, but this one puts it all together. It’s very clear that we have a spirit, soul, and body – not just a body and a soul. There are three parts to us.
On the inside of every believer, there is an entirely brand-new person that most don’t have a revelation of. Even if they’ve heard of their inner man, they don’t live according to it. They live and face their problems based on their physical ability and what they feel.
If we control our thinking by focusing on what is true in our spirit, it will control our feelings. All we will experience life and peace. This is what Romans 8:6 is telling us. To live only in the flesh leads to death. But to live by the Spirit leads to life and peace. The alternative to focusing on what’s true about our spirit is to focus on the physical world and what’s going on in it. That will lead to death. And that is what carnal mindedness is.
God wants to speak these truths to us through His Word so we can start relating to Him based on faith in what His Word says. It has the potential to change our lives. Too many even Christians are living for the next experience or something to fall from the sky to improve their lives when it’s the Word that is foundational for everything.
The Word of God — the “real” mirror — is what will change our lives. The reason we may be living under the thumb of the devil instead of the leading of the Holy Spirit is that we don’t know who we are or what we have. If we can begin to understand God’s Word and how He sees us, it will transform our lives.
Let’s not live life as only carnal beings, looking only at the physical realm. Let’s go by what is true about our spirits — the “real” us. When we understand that the spirit is the parent force, it will create an excitement to start living as spirit filled beings led by the Holy Spirit. When we go by what’s true in our spirit we will change our relationship with God. We will see life and circumstances through His eyes: the eyes of a loving heavenly Father who only wants the best for us. So, let’s discover our true identity, which is in our spirit, and we will be stronger than wasabi, which some say is stronger than horseradish!
